Ababi

Wangi Felixe Foundation

Wangi Felixe estate is on the edge of Ababi village, also home to our staff.

For over 20 years, these lovely people have been ensuring that we feel at home on Bali. They’ve become part of the family.

The responsibility we feel vis-à-vis our staff and the surrounding countryside does not end at the walls of the estate. We are becoming increasingly involved with the village and the villagers. With the Wangi Felixe Foundation we support projects aimed at improving the living environment of Ababi’s inhabitants.

Good fortune should be shared

Projects

Together with villagers

When you create jobs, you help entire families. Just like when you pay employees’ wages during the Corona crisis. But it’s even more important to support the whole village. Poverty prevails, particularly in the small villages of East Bali. That is why we set up the Wangi Felixe Foundation.
How do we help? Firstly, we listen to the wants of the villagers. In order to improve quality of life in Ababi, the Foundation donates a sum of money every month. In addition, we have started nature conservancy projects, and schemes with the villagers to improve the future of the local children. 5% of every booking goes towards these projects.

Clean Village Project

Recycling litter

The unspoilt nature of East Bali is magnificent, but sadly litter is a big problem. Every Sunday, the women of Ababi village collect any plastic and paper that is lying around. They take it very seriously. If you don’t participate, you must even pay a small fine. The problem is there is no litter-recycling facility. Trash is just incinerated, thus polluting the environment and affecting the villagers’ health. With the Clean Village Project, we intend to set up a recycling facility.

Crèche project

Good start

Every child has talent and deserves a good start. Many children in small villages in East Bali grow up in poverty. Not all have the same opportunities for a bright future. Ababi village does not have a crèche for children up to 6 years of age. They miss developmental stimulation and, at an early age, already have a language deficit and lack other skills. The Wangi Felixe Foundation aims to facilitate day-care with a trained teacher who organises activities, stimulating and supervising the development of young children through play, thus giving them a good start. That is important for their wellbeing, preparing them for school and improving their developmental opportunities later in life.
